If you are comparing the Google+ with Facebook, you are making a mistake as the Google+ was launched by the Google to give the company a whole new identity and the comparison should therefore be between the Facebook and the Google on the whole.

The “Circles” concept of the Google is far more comparable to our real life friend circles than the “ad hoc” group concept of the Facebook. For example, you can create one circle for your family, one circle for your work people, one for your old classmates and as many as you want. The biggest touted perk is that you can share the things with the circle that you want and the other circles won’t ever know of it.
